Phyllis Picardi While this is a nice “I was there” photo, I do not think that it will do well in competition. It is overexposed, so some levels and contrast might help that situation, and I would crop between the man’s head at the right and the woman’s head, since she is there for no reason that adds to the image. Generally I would say that if the man at the right had not been there, it might have been much stronger
Nancy Sams This is a great shot and of interest that I might expect in the newspaper but I might have cropped just a bit closer to the people to hold the interest and keep the eye from going to the yellow shirt.
Carol Rogus This sure tells the story that these people won tickets to Disney and are being interviewed after receiving the award, needing no explanation. Initially I thought it was too bad the fellow on the right intruded, but decided he actually is contributing to the "newsworthiness" of the event--he is really curious and wants to see what is going on. For a shot taken in the heat of midday sun, you did very well on your exposure, especially considering the super strong whites of t-shirts and award. All in all, I think you did very well, getting close in without too much interference; it might be cropped a bit on the right--since the man is already cut off from hand down, cropping into his back could eliminate the superfluous woman who is not paying attention anyway.
Ed Butler
Alex Lane This has all the ingredients of a Human Interest image but – falls a bit short in my view because it is too ‘general’ a shot. What I mean by that is, I would like to have seen more of the Faces and expressions than just an overview of this presentation. (8)

John Larson - Biography

Welcome to the second PJ digital study group, and I am looking forward to an educational and fun experience. Just a little bit in the way of a biography and about some of my interests.
I am almost 62 years young, a retired engineer now teaching math and married to Ruth. For thirty-eight years I worked as an engineer with both General Electric and Marathon Electric. During that time my responsibilities included managing all of the engineering computer efforts, primarily CAD and CAM. I also had the opportunity to use the computer (IBM compatible) for many reports and presentations related to work. At my college we are using several multimedia programs and the internet to deliver Online Courses.
I am now in my fifth generation of a home PC, starting with a Radio Shack Color Computer (just a couple of years ago, ha ha) and now with a clone Pentium IV. My first digital adventures were by having slides scanned to CDs, then a Canon D-30, followed by a Digital Rebel (just replaced by Canon 20D) and for my ski jacket a Canon S-50. Some of my other hobbies are photography, started with some classes in 1991, joined PSA in 1994 and sports of several varieties, especially skiing in winter. This combination gives me an excellent chance to blend for example skiing and photography and now computers and photography.
I exhibit in PSA exhibitions and have three stars in Color, three stars in PJ and one star in electronic imaging. I am a member of the PJ Slide Study group chaired by June Stone. I am the administrator for a printer-based version of Digital Imaging under the Print Division and have been a member of that group for about five years. I am anxious to get started in this PJ Digital Study group as that will reduce the need for me to make slides at some time. You may note on my web site that I do have the ability to convert digital files to slides and that is available to you if needed.
I look forward to reviewing all of your work and look forward to your comments. Please visit my web site listed below for more about me and more of my images. Thanks for joining me in this group.
