Hmong Woman and Tourist

IMAGE CAPTION: This was taken in the hill town of Sapa in Vietnam. It was interesting to me to capture the woman’s delight at seeing this image of herself on the camera screen. It was mid morning, and I believe that I used ISO100, f5.6 with my 70-200 2.8 lens.

John Larson This image should do well in competition especially with the people's expressions. I think I would burn some of the bright background on the left or crop it out.
Nancy Sams This has a strong interest for the viewer as we absorb what is happening and knowing that the woman is looking at her image. If this was my image, I believe I would have cropped of the tan pants of the man because it is drawing my eye away from the woman’s beautiful face and away from the action.
Carol Rogus What a sweet shot. I especially relate to it because several photographers who led groups in foreign countries used Polaroid cameras and locals crowded around to see the miracle of their portraits unfolding before them. I really like the fact I can see smiles on both subject's and photographer's faces. Excellent too that while they are both in sharp focus, the background is blurred. Perfect exposure and a great PJ shot.

Alex Lane I like the concept of this Image ( even though it shows a Nikon strap rather than a Canon) The color, sharpness and composition is very good. However, the main interest is not so much in the tourist (we see them all the time here in FL) it is in the local woman with her colorful costume. I think moving to the right would have eliminated some of the tourist and shown more of the woman AND what see if supposed to be looking at. (9)

It is hard to remember when I did NOT shoot images, but really began seriously shooting in the mid 80's for my local camera club's competitions. Unsuccessfully tried my hand in the darkroom for a while, emerging with huge piles of trash, and one, gray, uninteresting loser in my hand. Shot for stock for a dozen yrs, before digital came along. Love to shoot nature, travel, set ups, actually just about everything but people. That is why I think this study group will be helpful by forcing me to expand my horizons. Look forward to being in this, my first study group.
