Dinner In Delray

IMAGE CAPTION - Taken at 9PM one warm Thursday night in south Florida. It had poured that afternoon until around 5, but people took their chances and came out to share dinner and drinks at one of the sidewalk bistros along the main drag in Delray Beach. Going with no tripod, I boosted to 1600 ISO, braced against a tree, and shot at aperture priority F5.6 at 1/5th second.

John Larson A nice record shot, but I don't think it has much Human Interest. I think at 1/5 of a second you need Image Stabilization or a tripod.
Phyllis Picardi Looks like a really nice place to eat. I did not realize that FL had much of the sidewalk type of dining. I would suggest that you reshoot this sometime with the aid of a tripod. The image is beautifully framed, but is somewhat soft. I would also suggest that you burn in the 2 bright spots at lower right of the image, which are distracting. Love the framing of the image with the lit tree at the left. Due to the lack of sharpness, I’d give it a 6.
Nancy Sams This is very well done technically and it looks very warm and interesting but I don’t think that there is a competition edge here. If there had been a disturbance or some attraction catching our attention it would fare better.

Alex Lane Very nice for hand held – even for 1600. This is some movement visible but not too objectionable! The color is good for a night scene as is the exposure. From my perspective, I would have rather zeroed in on a few diners – making it a little more personal and interesting rather than just an overview showing little personal involvement. (8)

Carol Rogus FPSA - Biography - I bought my first SLR (Pentax) in 1972, progressed to Canon 20 years later, and Canon digital as of February 2006. Joined my first camera club in 1992, PSA in 1993, and have been engaged in the amateur photography whirlwind ever since with clubs, councils, chapters, and PSA. Served as VP and President of my New York City club, Cosmopolitan Chapter Chair, Region Director, PSA Public Relations VP for three terms, originator and chair of the 2004 Cosmopolitan Chapter PT Exhibition, and most recently 2006 PSA PT Exhibition Chair. A native New Yorker, I moved permanently to Southeast Florida in July 2005, a great idea whose time had come! Traded my view of downtown Manhattan (as you may know, including the World Trade Center and 9/11) for white ibis periodically breakfasting on my lawn. I now serve on the boards of both the Everglades Chapter and my camera club. Having traveled extensively since 1963 covering much of Europe, Asia, and northern Africa in addition to the United States, I found Photo Travel a natural. I have been generating and presenting cultural slide shows since 1996 in addition to judging club and council competitions and PSA exhibitions. I was quickly hooked when a PJ devotee convinced me to try this subject as well. With the move to Florida, I am now embracing wildlife, mostly wading birds—yet another joy. Absolutely LOVE digital work with Elements 4.
